Recent changes
[edit]I spent half an hour to copyedit the lead and all of its mistakes, the huge amount of POV and redundancies. I added several films which were not mentioned and toned down the fan-led stuff, all in accordance with WP:BLP and WP:NPOV. And there are many more such instances throughout the article which I am willing to take care of.
I was surprised by the immediate revert made by MarkAlexisGabriel (talk · contribs), the reason cited being "I like the lead" (?). Shahid • Talk2me 22:28, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Agreed, his edits worsen the quality and neutrality of the article.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:43, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Awards
[edit]I have been trying to prune this article of the (what I perceive as) excessively heavy emphasis on the awards that Ms. Lange has won, so that it reads less like an elaborate list--there's a separate page for that. To give you an idea, the word "award" appears a total of 71 times as of now. Any help would be appreciated. -Blake Burba (talk) 05:57, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
- I agree. This is not an awards showcase but an encyclopaedic article. Per WP:SUMMARYSTYLE only a summary of the awards need be retained in the main article with the rest going to the satellite article. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 06:04, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

Filmography & Jessica Lange Page (In General)
[edit]I will be making more extensive modifications to this page. If we're going to prune and re-edit, then I'm going to start using other actresses' entries, especially those that are well written and approved, as reference points in doing so.
In regards to my recent edit of Ms. Lange's filmography, I am following the format found on over a DOZEN other actresses' entries. These include Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Sally Field, Sissy Spacek and Susan Sarandon. Surely, all of the contributors to these pages cannot be wrong.
Please stop undoing revisions that are both informative and productive. If you're going to continue doing so, then I'd like to see you reediting all of the aforementioned pages, as well.
- You currently have no consensus to proceed. Blake and myself find your additions objectionable. There is no reason to add more awards in the article. Your quoting of other articles is irrelevant. See WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 20:48, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- Again, if you find these additions objectionable, then I'm assuming you will be editing the pages of the other actresses I listed. Also, in regards to WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, I quote:
When used correctly though, these comparisons are important as the encyclopedia should be consistent in the content that it provides or excludes. Trouble arises when legitimate comparisons, either by analogy with existing or non-existing article kinds, are disregarded without thought or consideration of the Wikipedia:Five pillars.
- I feel I've presented justifiable reason to keep my revisions. Undoing my latest revisions is working against the flow and consistency of the content found in this encyclopedia. MarkAlexisGabriel (talk) 21:08, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- Ha! Read what you wrote, and square it with any Wikipedia guidline. I dare you. Blake Burba (talk) 21:09, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- These claims are obviously not true. One has no obligation whatsoever to clean up other articles while attempting to clean up this one. Since there has been a fair amount of edit-warring today, and the main actor has been blocked, I will wait until tomorrow and I will revert back to the consensus version. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 23:36, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- I actually agree with the edits made my MarkAlexisGabriel. I think it's great that he went out of his way to ensure uniformity in regards to the content found on Wikipedia. If I may chime in, I'd like to see his edits reinstated. AdamantPosey (talk) 23:53, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Unsourced Awards
[edit]First of all, thank you Blake Burba and Δρ.Κ. for being fair and reasonable in regards to my edits to the Filmography section for this page. I'm glad this page is finally starting to look like the others of its type found on Wikipedia.
In regards to "unsourced and ridiculous awards", I have sources for them, as you will see below, and they're not ridiculous. For example, Meryl Streep's page has her NOMINATED for the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actress for The Iron Lady. This means she ranked in one of the top 5-10 slots for said award, though she didn't win the award itself. If you peruse her awards section, you will find many critics circle awards she did not win, but was "nominated" for and the same applies to these awards. This is common not just on Ms. Streep's page, but on other actors/actresses pages as well. Nonetheless, I've made a compromise by removing Ms. Lange's actual rankings and replacing them "Nominated" as per Ms. Streep's and others' pages.

Recent changes made to filmography
[edit]Changes have recently been made (in the past few weeks) by a user to the 'Filmography' section of the Jessica Lange document. These changes simplify the awards she has won/been nominated for, to a point of which readers, such as myself, fail to fully understand in which categories she has obtained such awards/nominations. For example, where the section should note that she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Tootsie, it simply notes that she won an Academy Award with no further details. This is an error made throughout the section, as it is not in keeping with the format for 'Filmography' sections of documents for other actors/actresses, for instance Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Ian McKellen and Emma Thompson. The changes made are not productive, not efficient, and are of simply negative and unhelpful consequences. I have attempted to revert the changes made, however the user quickly changes them back in a rapid succession. I do not wish to engage in an editing war, however I strongly believe that the 'Filmography' section of the Jessica Lange document should be kept to the same standard as those of other actors/actresses.--CHill1045 (talk) 21:34, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- There is no such rule as that filmography of an actor should include also notes with featuring their awards and/or nominations. Especially, when an actor has got a main article featuring all their accolades in full detail. Otherwise, all the articles related to the artist would read the same information. Hope that explains your concerns. Hornik (talk) 21:16, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
Awards are a story unto themselves in this actress's case
[edit]Until I saw the amazing list, I had a quite different picture of Lange's career. I was grateful to see the list, and think they are a story all by themselves. It's one thing to say that a former glamor girl from the movies did theater in midlife-- many do-- and quite another to relate how successful she was at it. 70.231.234.70 (talk) 07:25, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
Merger proposal
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- There seems to be no consensus here for a merge. The discussion has been open for a few months now with not much feedback so I'm going to close this for now. Gloss • talk 22:40, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
- Jessica Lange filmography
- Jessica Lange discography
- Jessica Lange exhibitions
- List of awards and nominations received by Jessica Lange
- Jessica Lange bibliography
It seems that a lot of hard work has gone in to these articles, but unfortunately none of it seems to be in line with our own MOS, not least WP:FILMOGRAPHY. There seems a lot of duplication especially in the leads and certain articles probably don't meet notability on their own. I'd propose that we bring everything back to this article, take stock, then create breakout articles only if warranted. --Rob Sinden (talk) 13:27, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Comment I think there is scope for a list here, aside from the main biographical article. A good template would be Peter Sellers and Peter Sellers on stage, radio, screen and record. Betty Logan (talk) 14:04, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- No objection to that method here. --Rob Sinden (talk) 14:10, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Although, now I've rationalised the filmography, it isn't that big. --Rob Sinden (talk) 14:50, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- No objection to that method here. --Rob Sinden (talk) 14:10, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Support merge of Jessica Lange discography to Jessica Lange#Discography. Not notable enough to warrant own article, Oppose merge of filmography and awards articles. Notable. Neutral on bibliography. Comment the "exhibitions" article has been merged into the bibliography now. Raykyogrou0 (Talk) 13:07, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
Finnish origin
[edit]The article starts with: Jessica Phyllis Lange (born April 20, 1949) is an American actress of Finnish origin.
Early life section has this: Her paternal ancestry originates in Germany and the Netherlands, while her maternal ancestry originates in Finland.
So it is true "of Finnish origin", but later it is said also of German and Dutch origin, why are those not stated? Because the sentence indicates she is ½ Finnish, but only ¼ German and Dutch? Should I be bold and them too? 82.141.126.28 (talk) 20:12, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Removal of sourced section
[edit]An IP-based editor insists on removing a part of the article in which we report what the source says. I suggest that me and the person who edited it in outweigh just one person, so have consensus anyway. Hopefully it'll be restored, but I don't want to get in a fight with someone:
- ", Lange is widely considered to be one of the greatest actors of her generation. ref "The 25 Greatest Actresses of the 90's". Entertainment Weekly (460). 1998-11-27. Retrieved 2012-07-03. /ref " DreamGuy (talk) 23:53, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
- One source is not enough for such statement, simple as that. Besides, the list doesn't include actors per "generation" but "decade", so your sentence should read: "According to EW, she was one of The 25 Greatest Actresses of the '90s"." MiewEN (talk) 13:08, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

Thespian
[edit]What does this term > thespian > means in the lead section?
>>> In 2016, Lange became the twenty-second thespian in history to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting. <<< -- Da Vinci Nanjing (talk) 12:34, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
- It's an alternative to the non-gendered "actor" or a shortcut for "actor/actress". For the word "thespian", see Thespis and wikt:thespian. Which term do suggest the word in the article should be linked to, or how could the sentence be rephrased? -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 12:46, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
- Sounds awkward to me, too. Actors are performing artists, so I would use either that word or just performer, artist or simply actor. And is it necessary to specify that she was "the twenty-second"? The phrase TCA is just a term, not a chart to compete... InUser (talk) 10:06, 28 August 2017 (UTC)
New picture
[edit]As pretty as this 2008 photo of Lange is, can we maybe find one that isn't 9 years old? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8800:5E81:DE00:C198:74E4:8149:D4D1 (talk) 22:50, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
Gary Oldman's directorial debut
[edit]This is a minor error, but the last paragraph of the 2010s section ends with a sentence: "Lange is reportedly set to star as Julia Margaret Cameron opposite Gary Oldman in his directional debut Flying Horse." As far as I know, Oldman debuted as a director in the '90s with Nil by Mouth [1] [2] [3], a movie which he also wrote, but not act in. I hope this is helpful. --212.87.13.104 (talk) 11:52, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
